William Becker

William “Bill” Fred Becker, 96, of Fort Dodge, died Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at the Simpson Health Center at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge.
A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
Bill is survived by his children; Steven Becker, Lynda Becker, and Jeffrey (Kathy) Becker all of Fort Dodge, and Lori (Dan) Cassady of Twin Lakes; seven grandchildren; Matt (Lindsey) Becker, Adam (Kjirsten) Becker, Nathan (Laine) Cassady, Mandy (Lucas) Nagl, Allison Becker (Tyler Anderson), Megan (Anthony Armile) Cassady, and Michael Cassady (Alana Dietz) and 10 great grandchildren with one on the way. Bill is also survived by his brother, Ed (JoAnn) Becker and a special friend Norma Hughett. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy on May 18, 2007, his parents, and a daughter-in-law, Debra Becker.
William Fred Becker, the son of William and Minnie (Etzel) Becker, was born December 15, 1927, in Fort Dodge. While in high school Bill enlisted into the United States Navy on April 26, 1946. He served on the aircraft carrier, USS Tarawa (CV-40), during WWII. After his discharge from the Navy on February 19, 1948, Bill graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1948. He also attended Fort Dodge Junior College. On June 24, 1952, Bill was united in marriage to Dorothy Jensen at the Little Brown Church at Nashua.
Bill was the third generation to own Becker Florist and Garden Center in Fort Dodge. He co-owned Becker Florist with his brother for 55 years, retiring in 2001.
Bill was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church, past member of the Friendship Haven board, charter member of the Fort Dodge Area Gardeners, former Rotarian, and past member of the Izaak Walton League.
He enjoyed the outdoors and nature. Planting trees, gardening, hiking, collecting artifacts, and a fan of Hawkeye/Cyclone sports. But most of all Bill loved his grandchildren.
