Phyllis Jane Baedke was born to Donald and Darlene Baedke on July 15, 1960. She attended Lutheran Church School and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High. She graduated from Iowa Central Community College and began employment as a registered nurse at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge in the early 1980’s.

Her first marriage was to Kirk Siefert and they were blessed with two children, McKay and Molly. She married her second husband Kyle, who was a general surgeon at the hospital where they met. Subsequently, she worked in her husband’s office for many years until his retirement in 2019.

Her husband’s book, “The Making of a Cowboy Doctor” was dedicated, “To my wife and soulmate, Phyllis. Without her love for nursing and tireless help in our doctor’s office, my career would have suffered, and this book would never have been written.”

Phyllis was an extrovert and was the best hostess and planner. She loved all her grandchildren so much. They were blessed to live next to their daughter Molly and her family. The granddaughters would run over to “Grandma P’s” (“G.P.”) often in bare feet and were always showered in “sugar” (kisses and hugs) by “G.P.”

She is survived by her husband Dr. Kyle Versteeg, children McKay Siefert (Erin Green), her grandchildren Brooklyn, Paige, Evie, McKay and Jensen, her siblings Steven (Sue) Baedke, Greg (Bev) Baedke, Mary Collmann, Barb (Joe) O’Brion, her sister-in-law Lynda Baedke, her in-laws Eddie Lee, Dirk Ver Steeg, and Julie Larson.

She was preceded in death with her daughter Molly, her parents, her siblings Roger, James and infant sister Julie.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for her granddaughters, the Barlow girls at Northwest Bank, Fort Dodge. Memorial gifts can be taken directly to Northwest Bank or checks may be written to Amanda Albright or Katie Rees.
