Lee Halder

Lee Halder, age 90, of Pocahontas, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at his home near Pocahontas, Iowa.

Charles “Lee” Leland Halder was born on January 10, 1934, in Laurens, Iowa. He was the son of Charles T. and Hope H. (Schlensig) Halder. Lee graduated from Ware High School in 1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was a surveyor during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in May of 1957 and spent several years recovering from complications of Tuberculosis, first at Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Denver, Colorado, then at the VA Hospital in Omaha and then at his home near Pocahontas. He then began farming with his father. In addition to farming, Lee operated an Aerial crop spraying business as a helicopter pilot. On August 13, 1988, he was united in marriage to Linda Rebhuhn Vander Zeyden on the Halderwood Farm near Pocahontas. Lee and Linda farmed side by side and in 1990, they started a catering business and eventually a bed & breakfast, called Halderwood Farms. In the late 1990’s they restored their 1906 barn which allowed them to expand their catering business. Lee retired from farming in 1999 and this allowed him more time to help with their catering business. Over the years, Lee and Linda served many families, groups and organizations through their catering services.

Lee was a member of the Varina American Legion and Laurens V.F.W. He enjoyed woodworking, planting trees, collecting antique tractors, blowing snow, mowing grass, and watching wildlife. He especially loved all the aspects of farming.

Survivors include his wife, Linda of Pocahontas; step-daughter, Gina (Bill) McDonald of Beloit, WI; several adopted grandchildren and sister-in-law, Barbara Rebhuhn of Elkhorn, Wisconsin. Lee was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Janice Meissner.

A Private Family Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Powers Funeral Home of Pocahontas, Iowa is handling the arrangements. For online condolences and obituaries, visit: www.PowersFH.net
