Gregory Loots

Gregory Loots, 76, of Twin Lakes, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at the Simpson Health Center at Friendship Haven.

Services will be 10:30 AM on Friday, January 26, 2024, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the North Lawn Cemetery with military honors conducted by the United States Navy and the American Legion Post #1856. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.

Greg is survived by his wife, Peggy; their two children, Ben (Rachel) Loots of Fort Dodge and Kendra (Cole) Ollinger of Lehigh; four grandchildren, Kolton, Teagan, Tucker, and Sydney. He is also survived by his sister Kristine Wright, a sister-in-law Dianne Davis, and a brother-in-law Thomas (Judy) Cobb. Greg is preceded in death by his parents.

Gregory Lee Loots, the son of Leo and Florence (Holst) Loots, was born March 27, 1947, in Fort Dodge. Greg was a member of the 1965 graduating class from Fort Dodge Senior High School. After high school Greg attended the University of Iowa before enlisting in the United States Navy in March of 1968. He served in the Navy until he was honorably discharged in November of 1974.

On January 25, 1975, Greg was united in marriage to Peggy Cobb in Summit, Mississippi. After their marriage the couple made Fort Dodge their home. Greg worked with his father Leo at Fort Dodge Preferred Beer Distributing from 1974 until the mid-80’s. He then worked as a food broker for Prewitt /Advantage Sales until his retirement in 2013. In Greg’s retirement, he opened Highway 7 Market in Manson, which served the Manson area and the surrounding communities with fresh fruit, vegetables, and a variety of seasonal items.

Greg enjoyed cooking, fishing, spending time with his grandchildren, boat rides, and cribbage.
