MYRON GROAT

Myron Groat, 88, of Fort Dodge, died October 7, 2023, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church with interment and military honors to follow at North Lawn Cemetery.

Myron Gayal Groat, son of Daniel and Mabel (Rogness) Groat, was born June 5, 1935, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was a 1953 graduate of Fort Dodge Senior High. Myron served in the U.S. Army from 1953-56. On June 17, 1955, he was united in marriage to Joann Swanson. He was employed at Fort Dodge Labs and Hormel’s. In 1982, the couple started ABC Lawn Care and he retired in 2000. He was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church. Myron was very active in both the Boy Scouts of America and Camp Fire Girls, serving in many leadership positions. He served as a supervisor for Webster County and was on the State Advisory Committee for Brushy Creek. He was a member of Questors, the Noon Lions Club and Elks Lodge. He also served as a board member of the Iowa Professional Lawn Care Assoc. Myron received the Governor’s Volunteer Award in 1995.

Survivors include his children Julie (Robert) Tarbox of FL, Mark (Shelli) Groat of Otho, and Michael Groat of Fort Dodge; grandchildren Tony Tarbox, Todd Tarbox, Matthew Groat, Jody Henderson and Tiffany Groat; stepgrandchildren, Shannon Crouse, Christina Crouse, and Ryan Johnson; great-grandchildren Jacey, Levi and one on the way, two nieces and one nephew and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife Joann in 2020, his great-grandson Kinnick, his parents, and his siblings Doris and Freeman.
