Debbie Mickelson, 68, of Vincent, Iowa, died after a sudden illness on September 11, 2023, at Van Diest Medical Center.

Memor­ial vis­it­ation will be held from 1:00 to 2:45 p.m. Saturday, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Family will also greet friends following the service as well.

Debbie Jean Sheker, daughter of Leonard and Ione (Brueland) Sheker, was born September 13, 1954, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was a 1972 graduate from Prairie Valley High School, Gowrie. She attended AIB for secretary training. On February 19, 1977, Debbie was married to Brian Mickelson and the couple made their home and raised their family in Vincent, Iowa. Debbie was employed with the Chamber of Commerce, Land O’Lakes and later the Eagle Grove Group Home. Debbie was a mentor to young ladies on probation from juvenile court and impacted many lives for the positive and continued many of those relationships. Her most important job was that of being a mother and grandmother. She loved her family deeply and cherished the time spent together. Debbie was a remarkable cook and enjoyed cooking together with her husband Brian. She didn’t know a stranger and loved talking with people one on one. She enjoyed the beauty of fresh cut flowers and bird watching.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Brian Mickelson, her children Nicole (Jason) Hoag of Humboldt, April (Jon) Mason of Eagle Grove, Chad Mickelson (Brad Duane) of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren Chase, Allison, Caden, Cameron, and Cohen; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her aunts and uncles.

Memorials can be directed towards Moffitt Animal Shelter in Humboldt (or to an animal shelter of choice) or to South Enes Lutheran Church.
