DENEE’ HANSEN

DeNee’ (McBride) Hansen, 92, Fort Dodge, Iowa, formerly of Minot, ND, died Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge, IA.

DeNee’ was born August 9, 1930 in Kenmare, ND, to Vernon and Babe (Monteith) McBride. DeNee’ grew up in Kenmare with two siblings Jim and Sally. She was active in high school participating in band, choir, cheerleading, dramatics, speech, Rainbow Girls, and Luther League. She graduated from Kenmare High School in 1948.

DeNee’ attended Dana College in Blair, Nebraska, and received her two-year teaching certificate. Shortly after, she met Roger Hansen and was married in August of 1950. The couple moved to Falls City, NE, where DeNee’ taught 4th grade.

In 1956, the Hansens moved to Minot and established Minot Woodworks. There, they raised their family of four children Angela, Pamela, Kirk and Metta. DeNee’ sang in the Zion Lutheran choir, taught Sunday School, lead Sunday School music and was very active in the Edison PTA. The family enjoyed summers at Kenosee Lake.

DeNee’ lived a life in service to her family and the Minot community. She directed the Minot Chapter of Sweet Adelines and led the group to regional and national competitions. DeNee’ was awarded a National PTA Lifetime membership and was a 50-year member of PEO Chapter AG.

In 1985, Roger passed away. DeNee’ continued to live in Minot and became an active member of First Lutheran Church. In 1990, she moved to Lake Metigoshe. DeNee’ directed the Bottineau Women’s Chorus, volunteered at Bottineau’s Good Samaritan Home, assisted with work at Metigoshe Ministries, and gave sage advice to all who would listen. She kept a beautiful home which the family cherished in all seasons.

In 2003, her beloved son, Kirk, died. Shortly after, DeNee’ moved back to Minot. She renewed old friendships, immersed herself in activities at the new Zion Lutheran Church and joined “The Hatitudes” red hat singing group.

In 2017, DeNee’ moved to Friendship Haven, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and sang in the Friendship Haven Choir. At the time of her death, DeNee’ lived in the Journeys neighborhood at Friendship Haven in the loving care of the staff, along with Pam and son-in-law, Curtis.

DeNee’ is survived by her loving family including:

Daughter, Angela (David) Speiser of Minot; their children Brenna Speiser (Byron Dueck) of London, UK, and Peter (Anna) Speiser and their children, Inga and Lars, Emerson NE.

Daughter, Pamela (Curtis) Halvorson of Fort Dodge Iowa; their children Evie (Matt) Dencklau, and their children Rylan Kingrey, and Bodin Dencklau, Fort Dodge, Iowa; Leif (Adrienne) Halvorson of Morgan Hill, CA, and their son, Fredrik; Anna (Michael) Foreman of Champagne, Ill and their children, Oliver, Aura Mae, and Charlie.

Daughter, Metta (Duane) Pfliger of Lake Sakakawea, ND; their children Cecelia Pfliger, and Gabriel Pfliger, Lake Sakakawea, ND.

Daughter-in-law, Barbara (Scott) Axness, Minot ND; Barb and Kirk’s children, Jacob (Angie) Hansen of Minot, and their children Taylor and Brooklyn Hansen; Alexis (Matt) Rossland of Williston and their children Lucy, Stella and Kirk.

Sisters-in-law, Ruth Holsten and Esther Hansen, Minnesota; Many beloved godchildren, along with nieces, nephews.

Preceded in death by: parents, Vernon and Babe McBride, husband Roger Hansen, son, Kirk Hansen, great-grandson Byron Halvorson, brother Rev. JV (Jim) McBride, and sister, Sally Thompson.

Funeral: Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Minot.

Visitation: Wednesday July 19, 2023, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family desires memorials sent to Grace Lutheran Church, Fort Dodge, and Friendship Haven Good Samaritan Fund.
