Jeffrey D. Johnson, 67, of Fort Dodge, died June 25, 2023, at Trinity Regional Medical Center.
Memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednes-day, June 28, 2023, at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Interment will be held in St. Olaf Cemetery.
Jeffrey Dee Johnson, son of Dee and Roberta (Snell) Johnson, was born September 1, 1955, in Fort Dodge. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High. Jeff started working for Becker Florist at the age of 13 and continued until his retirement for over 40 years.
Jeff's first job was as a carrier for The Messenger before joining the Becker Florist staff.
During the summers, he could easily be found digging in the dirt, planting a garden with vegetables. Sometimes it was just things that he wanted to try that were new.
During the night time you could find him at the bowling alley with his parents throwing the ball down the lane as that became one of his life long passions.
With his father growing up on the railroad, trains became a passion for the two, as both would craft and construct model train sets in the basement.
Jeff was a man of few words, but if you were around him or knew him, he would always put everyone first before his own needs. If he was down to his last $5 and someone needed it, it would be theirs.
In his life his kids were his pride and joy. He would make sure he would take his lunch hour at different times of the day if his son had a baseball game, so he could go see him play.
Once his grandchildren and only niece came they were the center of his attention. As he learned from his grandkids how to use a smartphone and social media. He would keep in touch often sending them memes fit to their personality.
When you stepped in a room with Jeff he was the wittiest one there. If you needed an answer to what happened back when or what does this mean, he was the one that had the answer.
In his last days in the hospital, he was keeping the nursing staff on their toes, cracking jokes and being the life of the party.
Survivors include his son Chris (Tabitha) Johnson; his grandchildren, KayDee, Bryce, JayLee, Lilly, Ella, and Eli; his sister Joni (Jeff) Burrell of Pleasant Hill, and his niece Jill Burrell. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter Danyel McFarland.
