ELIZABETH ‘BETTY’ ALLARD and ROBERT ‘BOB’ ALLARD

Elizabeth “Betty” Allard, 94, of Fort Dodge, died February 21, 2023, in Des Moines. Her husband Robert “Bob” Allard, 90, died December 14, 2019. They will be forever remembered by the family who loved them so deeply.

Elizabeth Rose Entgelmeier, daughter of August and Anna (Kehrer) Entgelmeier, was born August 1, 1928. At age 16 she graduated from Burnside High School and went to Cedar Falls Teachers College. Due to her young age, she was unable to teach at that time. Instead, she worked as a telephone operator in Fort Dodge. Robert James Allard, was born December 24, 1928, the seventh of seven sons of Earl and Frances (Novotny) Allard. He grew up on a farm near Moorland. Bob farmed and served in the National Guard, Red Bull Division.

Bob and Betty were married on March 21, 1949, in Dayton, IA. To their marriage of over 70 years, 4 children were born; Carol, Michael, Beverly, and Joyce. The couple lived and farmed in the Fort Dodge area until their retirement.

Bob and Betty enjoyed trips to anywhere as long as they were together. During their 70 years of married life, they attended sporting events, music concerts, graduations, and plays of their four children without fail. Fishing was a shared pastime, many times with their good friends, Tommy and Marigene Lennon. While Bob collected “objects d’art,” including caps and coins, Betty was busy quilting, including one for each child, grandchild and great grandchild. She also knitted many blankets which she donated to a homeless teen shelter.

Survivors include their children Carol (Mark) Hillman of Lake Panorama, Michael (Mary) Allard of Fort Dodge, Beverly (John) Worden of Green Mountain and Joyce (Jim) Baird of Clive; 6 grandchildren, Sarah Allard, Kathryn (Luke) Amdor, Christopher (Christi) Allard, Elizabeth (Michael) Baird, Allison (Marvin) Baird, and William Worden; 4 great grandchildren, Tyler Nord, Gibson Amdor, Elizabeth Amdor and Patrick Allard, and her siblings Walter (Joyce) Entgelmeier, Helen Lande and Harold (Joyce) Entgelmeier. She was preceded in death by her parents. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and a sister.

Funeral services for both Bob and Betty will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with visitation held prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. at Gunderson Funeral Chapel, 1615 North 15th Street, Fort Dodge. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the service. Luncheon will be served at Gunderson Funeral Home after interment.
