VIVIAN J. HANSON

CALLENDER — Vivian J. Hanson, 91, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at Bickford Senior Living in Fort Dodge.

Vivian was born on March 18, 1931, to Kelly and Viola (Evanson) Lowry. She was preceded in death by her husband Dale, parents Kelly and Viola (Evanson) Lowry, siblings Maxine Dorsey, Kalcie Lowry, Leone Bryson, Wayne Lowry, Eugene Lowry, and Kay Nehrus.

Vivian is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Dick Peterson of Callender; her children, Barbara (Larry) Stout of Tucson, AZ, Mark Hanson of Callender, Marty Hanson of Slifer, Julie (Kevin) Davis of Fort Dodge; her grandchildren, Kyle Davis of Ankeny, Greg Davis of Kansas City, MO, Olivia Hanson of Brooklyn, NY, and Jenna Hanson of Gowrie and many nieces and nephews.

In 1947, Vivian’s high school basketball team played at the Girls State Basketball tournament.

After graduating from Callender High School, Vivian worked at the Boston Store until she married Dale H. Hanson of rural Slifer on March 1, 1951. They farmed for most of their married years. Vivian returned to work at the Boston Store when her children were in school.

Vivian lived in the Callender area her entire life. She enjoyed cooking, baking, singing, playing the piano and having coffee with family and friends. She was an active member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church. She lived her Christian faith of selflessness, hard work, caring, kindness, and compassion.

Visitation will be on Monday, November 28, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Callender. Funeral service will be Tuesday, November 29 at 10:30 AM at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Callender with Pastor Greg and Pastor Deb Stano officiating. Burial will follow in the Callender Cemetery. Palmer-Swank Funeral Home is serving the family. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
