Thursday, August 11, 2022, is a sad day for some as Violet Rees, lov­ing mother and good friend, passed away. Violet was a kind, car­ing, good natured and generous woman who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Violet S. Geerdes, the daughter of John and Wilhelmina “Katie” (Baumann) Geerdes, was born October 25, 1930, at Lakota, Iowa. She graduated from Swea City High School in 1949. On September 16, 1950, Violet was united in marriage to Frank Rees in Omaha, Nebraska. They moved to Fort Dodge in 1950. Vi worked at J.C. Penney for a short time before starting her long journey into motherhood. In 1964, Violet went back to work with her husband to operate Frank’s Skelly Gas Station until 1969. Vi went on to work in the medical records department at Trinity Regional Hospital where she retired in 1995.

Violet was a member of Holy Trinity Parish. She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling and camping. Violet grew up on a farm where she acquired a strong work ethic and was known for the good life wisdom she shared.

Violet is survived by her children, Joe (Michelle) Rees, Dan Rees, Roger (Karen) Rees, Gary (Peg) Rees, Kathy (Russ) Goebel, Diane (Randy) Jones, Paul (Cindy) Rees, and David Rees; 27 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren; and her lifelong friend Win Flaherty. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sons, Pat and Ed, a great granddaughter, and her four brothers, Wilbur, Marlin, Maurice and Lee.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ross Caniglia celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will follow at Chapel of Peace Mausoleum. Visitation is 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
