Shelby Jaylane Weist, passed away in her sleep August 14, 2022, at her home in Fort Dodge, at the age of 50. A Mass of Christian Burial is being planned for Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Fort Yates, North Dakota.

Shelby Jaylane Murphy was born November 19, 1971, to Gary and Melda (White) Murphy. Shelby was an enrolled member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. She attended St. Bernard’s Catholic School where she played basketball at Fort Yates High School. Shelby went on to Job Corp in Montana to be a certified welder. Where she would meet her husband of 15 years. This union gave her two beautiful daughters: Jocelyn Weist and Malia Weist (Peanut).

During her stay with us we adopted her as our sister and Auntie, my children became her own she got to see them grow throughout their life we met Shelby in 2002 at United Tribes. So, I asked her to come and help me in Iowa and she said “yes” the next day she was on the bus, so she has been here in Iowa for the past 6 years filling your hearts with laughter, supportiveness, love and accomplishments.

Shelby loved wolves and I see it as her spirit animal. She had the heart and strength of one especially with youth and children, throughout her many stories of her life she was a Den mother to many so if you were fortunate enough to be a part of her life consider yourself touched by an Angel we miss her dearly and our lives will never be the same without her.
