WILLIAM (BILL) EUGENE HOOVER

BARNUM — William (Bill) Eugene Hoover, 94, of Barnum, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.

Services will be 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors conducted by the VFW Post #1856 and the United States Navy. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Saturday at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

William Eugene Hoover, the son of Harvey and Gertrude (Fuller) Hoover, was born April 9, 1928, in Evanston, Iowa. Bill enlisted into the United States Navy at the age of 17 and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during WWII from July 11, 1945, until his honorable discharge on August 17, 1946. Bill was a lifetime member of the VFW.

In 1948, Bill married Ruth Henson in Fort Dodge and after their marriage the couple farmed. Bill also worked at the gypsum mills and later was the warehouse manager for Pepsi Bottling in Fort Dodge. Bill and Ruth together managed several skating rinks including SP Skateland.

In Bill’s retirement, you could find him mowing the lawn at Oakland Cemetery, delivering transmissions for Automatic Transmission of Fort Dodge or helping his daughter deliver meals for Coney Island. After 53 years of marriage to Ruth, she passed away on May 10, 2001.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Rick Rogers, of Barnum; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth, son Mike, brother Elwood and his sister Peg Elm.
