JOHN JOHNSON

John Albert Johnson of Bullhead City, AZ and formerly of Fort Dodge, Iowa, was laid to rest last week in a private service at Memorial Park Cem­etery in Fort Dodge.

John was born to Swedish immigrants, John and Anna Johnson on May 30, 1933 in Fort Dodge and was a lifelong member of the Swedish Covenant Church, now 1st Covenant Church. He passed away on August 4, 2018 in Bullhead City, AZ. He graduated from Fort Dodge High school in 1951. After a year of college he served in the United States Army. He married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Fawcett, of Fort Dodge, in 1953.

At the end of his military service, they returned to Fort Dodge and set up their home.

John began working at RoJohn Insulation Company where he had worked as a student in high school.

He became a very talented woodworker. John and Gloria purchased the company from Cecil RoJohn in 1975. They sold RoJohns to their daughter, Terry, in 1995.

John was a good athlete playing ice hockey on the river as a youth. He was a bowling and horseshoe champion. He played in softball league. He played baseball in high school and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, living long enough to see them win the World Series.

John was an avid pheasant hunter and fisherman and went on yearly fishing trips to Canada with his good friend Gene Swalla and brother-in-law Ken Vinson. He loved to recall the many exciting stories from both.

John and Gloria loved to travel and enjoyed traveling the country in their RV. They wintered in Arizona beginning in the 80’s with John moving there full time after Gloria’s death in 2002.

In his retirement John enjoyed wood burning, wood carving and was a talented gourd artist.

John was preceded in death by his wife Gloria, parents, and sister Marion (Donald) Johnson.

John is survived by his three children. Terry (Mike) McCarville of Twin Lakes, Ann Johnson of Des Moines and James (Mary) Johnson of Bullhead City, AZ. John is also survived by two grandsons, Nicholas (Agnes) McCarville of Clive and Braydon (Maghan) McCarville of West Des Moines, as well as 5 great grandchildren.
