ROLLIN SWANSON

Rollin J. Swanson, 92, of Fort Dodge, died Sunday, June 19, 2022, at Bickford Cottage. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednes­day, June 22, 2022, at Grace Lutheran Church. Interment and military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Lawn Cemetery, Boxholm. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. (today) Tuesday at Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Rollin is survived by his sons, Jeffrey E. (Kirsten) Swanson, Rockford, Mich.; Dirk A. (Margo) Swanson, Adel; five grandchildren, Kelsey, Daniel (Sydney), Kate, Jacob and Micah; his siblings, Dwain (Dorothy) Swanson, Verle (Mavis) Swanson, Larry (Evelyn ‘Evie’) Swanson, Yvonne “Vonnie” (Lyle) Guhl, Robert (Jan) Swanson and Kenneth (Betty Jo) Swanson.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Martha and Cleo, his parents, his sister Darlene (Robert) Ball.

Rollin James Swanson, the son of Lloyd H. and Nellie (Dahl) Swanson, was born February 28, 1930, at Boxholm. Rollin graduated from Boxholm High School and with the G.I. Bill from Iowa State University in Animal Husbandry in December 1958. From 1954 to 1956, Rollin served in the U.S. Army. On July 8, 1956, Rollin was united in marriage to Martha Thorn, mother of Jeffrey and Dirk. She preceded him in death in 1983. In 1987, Rollin was united in marriage to Cleo Hade. Rollin was employed with Land O’Lakes for 32 years in field research.

Rollin was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He volunteered with Church of Damascus Road Prison Ministry, Habitat for Humanity, he was a 25-year volunteer with Boy Scouts of America and he was a member of American Legion Peterson Post #431. He enjoyed bicycling and was active in the Via De Christo Prison Ministry.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed towards Grace Lutheran Church.
