DARLENE THOMPSON

On Saturday, May 14, 2022, Darlene Ann (Buske) Thompson, loving wife to husband Roy L. Thompson and de­voted mother, peacefully completed her life journey under the compassionate care of Homeward Hospice. Surrounding her bedside were members of her loving family.

Born on June 23, 1936 to William and Ida (Julius) Buske, Darlene was the youngest of 16 children raised on a farm on the western shore of Lizard Lake, Pocahontas County, Iowa. She graduated from Palmer High School.

Darlene raised five children with her husband on a farm near West Bend, Iowa. She later moved to an acreage north of Fort Dodge and most recently resided at Athens Woods Estates in Stratford, Iowa.

Darlene’s faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior was of major importance to her. Active in church all of her life (until physically unable to do so) she faithfully discharged her gift of hospitality at church functions, in her community, and with her immediate and extended family.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years Roy L. Thompson, Stratford, IA, children Daniel (Glenda) Thompson, Ionia, MI, Sheryl (Sandy) Sandahl, Savage, MN, Dale Thompson, Stratford, IA, Marie (Harley) Mourlam, Alden, IA, Robert (Sheila) Thompson, Ankeny, IA, sister Luella Ruby (Lee Phillips), Otho, IA, several cousins, many nieces and nephews, 17 grandchildren and step grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ida (Julius) Buske, siblings Ann, Anna, William, Frederick, Henry, Arthur, Gerd, Earl, Irene, Ida, Margie, Edna, Richard and Ervin.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on May 31, 2022 at Crossway Evangelical Free Church, Fort Dodge, Iowa. Visitation will be offered at 10:00 and the service will be held at 11:00. Pastor Gabriel Casciato will officiate. The church will provide a luncheon immediately following the service. Gunderson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Darlene will be interred at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Lizard Township, Palmer, Iowa at a later date.
