Paul Clifford Mickelson was born September 9, 1930, in Duncombe and baptized March 29, 1931. He received his education at Duncombe Schools and graduated from high school in 1948. He served in the Korean War from July 1951 to June 1953. He was a corporal in the Headquarters Company 120 Combat Corp of Engineers, 45 Infinity Division. After his service in the army, he attended GI School.

On February 7, 1954, he married Patsy Larson at Badger Lutheran Church in Badger, Iowa. The couple resided and farmed near Lehigh. They had two children, Jane and David. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Burnside and served on the church council and Brotherhood. He loved his church family. He served on the Central Webster Community School Board for three years. He was an active member of the Lions Club in Lehigh.

His passion was farming, which he worked at all his life. For many years he raised hogs, cattle, corn, and soybean crops. Working the ground and enjoying the harvest was just part of the natural rhythm of his life. He took pride in his farm, this was evident as he mowed the ditches all around his fields.

He enjoyed woodworking and loved to give what he made to others. He treasured time with family and enjoyed going to grandchildren’s activities, concerts, events, etc. He worked hard, but always made time to go on vacation each year. He was always there to lend a helping hand and enjoyed visiting with family and neighbors. Paul made everyone feel welcome when people visited. He gave people praise and was always happy for their accomplishments.

One of his highlights in life was going on the Honor Flight to Washington DC with his son.

Survivors include: his wife, Patsy, of 68 years, daughter, Jane (Jim) and son, David (Cathy), grandchildren Jacob and Lindsay, sister’s in-law, nieces and nephews, and many friends.

We were all blessed to know him.

Memorials to the discretion of the family.
