STEPHEN J. STEIN

HUMBOLDT — Stephen J. Stein, 69, of Humboldt, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 24th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Humboldt. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, with a Prayer Service at 5:00 PM all at Laufersweiler Funeral Home in Fort Dodge.

Survivors include his children Ryan (Kristi) Stein of Humboldt, Amy (Andrew) Klein of Forest City, Brook (Jesse Luther) of Forest City, Joel Stein of Algona, 9 grandchildren, siblings David (DeLynn) of Barnum, Kevin (Marilyn) of Gilmore City, Mary Jean Patterson of Madison, WI, Jane (Kyle) Smith of Pocahontas, Philip (Julie) of Algona, Carolyn (Doug) Miller of Algona, Michael (Deb) Stein of Iowa City, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded by his parents Gene and Mary (George) Stein, infant brother Kenneth Thomas Stein.

Stephen Joseph Stein was born on September 6, 1952, in Fort Dodge. He was raised and educated on a farm south of Gilmore City near the Clare area. In 1971 he graduated from Pocahontas High School where he was a part of the State Championship 4×800 Track Team. He then attended and graduated from I.C.C.C College where he received his Associate of Arts degree. Stephen worked at various jobs including many years at Xerox.

For several years he owned and operated Copy Tech in Fort Dodge. He also loved to farm with his brothers David and Kevin. Stephen was a H.A.M. radio enthusiast, an usher at St. Mary’s Church, and really enjoyed drinking coffee and visiting with friends. He was an accomplished drummer, often playing classic rock and the blues. Stephen was a muscle car fan who would often remember his GTO from his high school days.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
