LARRY ALLEN VESTERBY

AMES — Larry Allen Vesterby, 70, of Ames, IA, passed away peacefully at his home on January 20, 2022 with family by his side. He was born on February 11, 1951, in Humboldt, IA, and was the son of Joy and Gladys (Werling) Vesterby.

Larry grew up in Rutland, IA, and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1969. He married Roxanne Knoedler in 1973 and they had 3 children during their 17 years together. He later met Sherri Erie who would become his wife on April 27, 2000, at which time he added 2 stepsons to his family.

Larry worked various jobs over the years but enjoyed working as a Maintenance Engineer for Harklau Hotels the best. Larry had a fun-loving spirit and was an incredibly talented individual. His passions were working on his Fieros, Dirt Track Racing, being a member of the Modifiers Car Club, and cheering on his beloved Hawkeyes and Raiders.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife Sherri Vesterby, his children Todd Vesterby, Jennifer (Chris) Janssen, Drew (Kristi) Vesterby, and stepsons Justin (Alyssa) Erie, Jordan Erie, along with his 9 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and his lifelong best friend Jerry Moritz.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Joy and Gladys Vesterby, brother and sister-in-law Ron and Inga Vesterby, and nephew Ron Vesterby Jr. He was greatly loved by his family and friends and will be missed. He lived life his way and we respect him for that.
