GEORGE GLEASON

GILMORE CITY — George William Gleason, 76, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy (Neel) and Theodore M. Gleason, his sister Margaret (Korde) and his brothers David and T. Alan. He is survived by a sister Gayle and brother Michael, as well as 19 nieces and nephews,

George grew up in Gilmore City, IA and attended public school there until his junior year. He graduated as Salutatorian from Pocahontas HS in 1963.

After attending college at the University of Iowa and the University of Cincinnati, George graduated with an Architecture degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. He held many jobs during his career, including working with his brother Alan at T.A. Gleason Associates in Cincinnati. He then worked as a staff architect at Wright State University, until he retired in 2011.

George was a kind, free and creative spirit, and was always willing to share a smile or a story. His infectious laugh and quick wit will be greatly missed. In addition to his love of architecture, he wrote poetry, painted, and was a devoted Cincinnati Reds fan. He was also a lifelong Democrat — inheriting the passion from his father — and had the honor of managing his dad’s successful run for Iowa State Representative in 1964.

In 2011, George moved back to Gilmore City and opened the County Line Tap with his friend Ryan Angell. Ryan and his wife Tracy plan to hold a Celebration of Life for George at a later date.
