CARMEN SMITH

Carmen Viers Willadsen Smith, 61, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Wednesday October 13, 2021, with her family by her side at Trinity Regional Medical Center. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel, burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Fort Dodge. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Carmen was born on June 17, 1960, in Alexandria, LA, to James and Georgia (Alvarez) Viers. She graduated from Greene Community High School in 1978. She was united in marriage to David Charles Willadsen in Arvada, CO, on September 13, 1978. To this marriage were two sons. She was united in marriage to Floyd David Smith on August 31, 1990, in Greene, IA, and they later divorced. Carmen’s favorite pastimes were playing cards, dancing, movies, going to casinos, baking, taking pictures and she loved spending time with her family and friends. She worked for 5 years as a cashier at the Wal-Mart Pharmacy where during this time she became close with co-workers who she was proud to call “friends.”

Carmen is survived by her sons Joe (Amanda) Willadsen of Marble Rock, IA, and David Willadsen of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandchildren Gabriella, Paisley and Trayten; her sister Carol (Paul) Rice of Fort Dodge; her brother John (Val) Viers of Beatrice, NE, and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Georgia Viers; two brothers James A. Viers and Joseph A. Viers and her grandparents.
