ELLEN CHARLENE (DUNBAR) HOUSKEN

Char Housken, 83 form­er­ly of Indio, CA received her Wings on Wednes­day, Sep­tember 1st in Ankeny, IA with Family. A Family service will be held in Lehigh at Westlawn Cemetery.

Char is survived by her children, Rob – Lehigh, Rhonda – Ankeny, Randy – Palm Desert, CA and Rick – Ames. Eleven Grandchildren and 18 Great-Grandchildren and her sister Dalene Engeman of Fort Dodge. Char is proceeded in death by her husband Bob, parents Clarence and Ellen Dunbar, sisters Eilene Wise and Darlene Cummins, one Grandson Scott Housken.

Ellen Charlene (Dunbar) Housken was the daughter of Clarence and Ellen (Graves) Dunbar and was born on September 19, 1937 in Lamoni, IA. Char attended Duncombe High School class of 1955, she participated in basketball and vocal with her three sisters.

On March 13, 1955 she was united in marriage to Robert Clarence Housken at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. The couple moved to Lehigh in 1957 and raised all four children. Char was employed at Globe Union in Fort Dodge and Webster City Products, retiring from State Farm in California. In 1984 the couple moved to Palm Desert, CA where she lived till her illness progressed then moved to Ankeny, IA in April 2021 near Rhonda.

Char loved her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, enjoyed following each of them in their sport/school activities. Char and Bob enjoyed dancing; favorite hobbies were quilting, crocheting, and sewing. Char started a Line Dancing group and was President of the first club (Lively Liners) at Shadow Hills/Sun City in Palm Desert where she was involved in many actives like golf, fitness, bridge and sewing.
