GENEVIEVE FARMER

PANORA, FORMERLY OF FORT DODGE — Gene­vieve Farmer, 102, seven months, and four days, was born at Grand Junction, Iowa, on November 30, 1918, the daughter of Virgil and Mary (Collogan) Mount. She passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021, at Panora Specialty Care, Panora, Iowa.

She was raised on a farm south of Grand Junction and graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1936. On October 3, 1938, she married Oscar R. Farmer at her parents’ home at Grand Junction. They lived in the Grand Junction area for 37 years before moving to a farm southeast of Paton in 1957, where they continued farming. She was a farm wife and homemaker who enjoyed sewing and gardening. She made numerous quilts and always had flowers around her yard.

In 1968, Oscar retired from farming and Genevieve started work in Fort Dodge, where they moved in 1970. She retired from Fort Dodge Labs on May 1, 1982, after fourteen years’ service. She was a very active, life-long member of the United Methodist Church. She was a past Sunday School teacher for several years and a member of Joy Circle and United Methodist Women. In 2008 she sold her house and moved into Friendship Haven and, after living in Fort Dodge for 43 years, she moved to Panora Nursing & Rehab in Panora, Iowa, in March 2013.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Oscar (in 1980); four brothers, Wayne, Warren, Merle, and Dwight Mount; son, Dick Farmer; and son-in-law, Oran Prescott.

Survivors include her son, Roger (Anita) of Huxley, IA; her daughter, Nancy Prescott of Panora; and her daughter-in-law Jan Farmer of Derby, KS; her brother, Dale (Linda) Mount of Boone, IA; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, several honorary grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Saturday, July 10, 2021, at the Twigg Funeral Home, Panora. Burial will be held immediately following the services at the Junction Township Cemetery, near Grand Junction. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home, no refreshments will be served during the visitation.
