JOHN BIEGE

John Henry Biege, the son of Winnie W. and Cora (Alex­and­er) Biege, was born on March 8, 1917, in Baraboo, Wisconsin, where he was raised and educated.

John served in the United State Air Force during W.W. II from October 18, 1943, until his honorable discharge on December 16, 1945.

On August 28, 1938, John was united in marriage with Dorothy Evanson.

John started his career in the meat packing industry on the production line at Wilson & CO in Albert Lea, MN and he retired in 1980 as the Corporate Production Supervisor for Hormel Foods in Austin, MN. He was responsible for the production of SPAM.

John was a member of the Eagle Grove Rotary Club and served as President when he was 101 years old. He was also a member of Bower Masonic Lodge, the ELKS Club and the American Legion.

John had his pilots license and enjoyed flying for many years. He also liked playing the organ, woodworking, exercising, golfing and playing cards. John made his 3rd and last parachute jump when he was 92.

John, the last of nine children, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2021, at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge, at the age of 104 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Dorothy in 2011.

Survivors include his daughters, Dianne Messerly (Dick) of Eagle Grove and Susan Witt (Doug) of Fort Dodge; nine grandchildren: Kris Miller (Heath) of Vincent, Laurie Sharpe (Mark) of Fort Dodge, Jodi Fawcett of St. Joseph, MO, Daniel Witt (Laura) of Chapman, KS, David Messerly (Shelby) of Chapman, KS, Andy Witt of Mankato, MN, Tara Witt of Fort Dodge, Cindy Prien (Travis) of Waterloo and Judy Witt of Fort Dodge; 23 great-grandchildren and 8 great great-grand children.

Visitation is Sunday, June 27 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove with Masonic services at 2:30. Burial will be in Westfield Township Cemetery in Reedsburg, Wisconsin on July 17, 2021.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
