James (Jim) Cox, 70, of Fort Dodge, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. Services will be on Saturday March 13 at 11:00 AM at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. A time of gathering for family and friends will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Webster City, Iowa.
James Edgar Cox, the son of Earnest and Elnora (Michael) Cox, was born September 14, 1950, in Centerville, Iowa. After graduating from high school in 1968, Jim served in the United States Army in the 101st Air Borne Division in Vietnam.
After his honorable discharge from the Army, Jim moved to Des Moines where he lived and worked for several years. Jim later moved to Fort Dodge where he began working for Dr. Macdonald's Vitamized Feed Company. On April 21, 1984, Jim was united in marriage to Shirley Peterson in Webster City, Ia. The couple made their home in Fort Dodge. Jim began working for the US Postal Service as a clerk and retired after 29 years of service in 2011.
He loved the Hawkeyes, riding his motorcycle, visiting Door County, Wisconsin, his family, and especially their 3 dogs Abby, Haley, and Riley. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his wife Shirley, his siblings William (Eleanor) Cox of Okarche, OK, Marge Brandenberg of Delmar, IA, Gene Cox of Peoria, IL, Tom (Linda) Cox of Unionville, MO, and Kathy (Gary) Lord of Tucson, AZ, and many many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Ruth Clark.
