JANET ANDERSON

JOHNSTON — Janet Marie Anderson, age 79, passed away on February 23, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, surrounded by her family. She was born on September 22, 1941, in Gowrie, Iowa, where she grew up on a farm driving tractors and shucking corn. She graduated from Harcourt High School where she played basketball. She became a devoted mother and later a single mother who was committed to taking care of her children. She took in her grandson David as one of her own. Janet was employed for over 27 years by Kentucky Fried Chicken where she was promoted to manager.

In her free time she enjoyed watching football, basketball, track, NASCAR, Law and Order, and NCIS. She loved the music of Garth Brooks and Shania Twain. She will be remembered for her love of plants and animals and her great sense of humor. Janet was a caring, loving person and will be dearly missed by family, friends, and co-workers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Mildred Van Hoff, brother, Sonny H. “Donald” and grandson Matthew Sandblom; one sister, Joan Nichols; and one daughter, Janelle Huebert. She is survived by her sons Steven (Lori) Anderson and Brian Anderson; siblings Darlene Lundberg, Carolyn Lee, Dennis Van Hoff, and Donna Shady; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A visitation is planned for Saturday, February 27, at 10 a.m., followed by a service at 11 a.m. at Creekside Church, 2743 82nd Place in Urbandale, Iowa.
