WALTER HAMMITT

WEBSTER CITY — Walter Hammitt, 85, of Webster City, died Sunday, November 22, 2020, at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, private family services will be held. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with the services.

Walter Dean Hammitt, son of William and Myrtle (Trueblood) Hammitt was born August 13, 1935, in Webster County. He graduated from Lehigh Community Schools. Walt was united in marriage to Marjorie Lea Legg on March 9, 1955, at Lehigh. To this union four children were born. Marjorie died on January 30, 1987. On November 12, 1988, Walt married Mary Ann Bailey in Webster City. He farmed many years in the area and was the plant manager for US Gypsum in Fort Dodge.

He is survived by his wife Mary Ann; children, Crystal (Tony) Hoffman of Plainfield, Ind., Randy (Karen) Hammitt of Jesup, Lisa Hammitt of Webster City; step-sons, Doug (Nancy) Bailey, Jim (Cindy) Bailey, Kent (Milissa) Bailey, all of Webster City; 24 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and brother, Dale (June) Hammitt of Colorado.

Walt is preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie; daughter, Sandi Markley, his parents, and sister, Joan Wakeman.

He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and a past member of the Diamond K Kiwanis.
