Clyde O. Farmer, 93, of Fort Dodge, died Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at his residence at Friendship Haven.
A service honoring Clyde's life will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 5, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jennifer Osheim-Owen officiating. Visitation is from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Military honors will be presented by V.F.W. Post No. 1856. Interment will take place at a later date at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter.
Clyde is survived by his son, Dennis (Jan) Farmer, Plano, Texas; and their children, Steven, Kyle and Sara (Chris) Geraci, and their children, Barrett and Aleena; his daughter Janet Phillips, Des Moines; and her sons, Chad Phillips and Bryan (Beth) Phillips and their children, Nevaeh, Jacob, Allie and Caden; and his sister-in-law Ina Farmer. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his sisters, Mildred Black and Nina Mount, his brother Floyd Farmer and his travel companion Fern Furst.
Clyde Owen Farmer, the son of Noah G. and Verda M. (Summers) Farmer, was born March 10, 1927, in Sac County, Iowa. Clyde grew up on the family farm at Grand Junction. He served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1945 to 1948. On February 7, 1950, Clyde was united in marriage to Eva Zerbs in Fort Dodge. Clyde worked for Borden Dairy and retired from Brokaw Supply Company. He and Eva enjoyed traveling together including to Costa Rica, Cancun and Europe among other places and they enjoyed playing golf. Eva preceded Clyde in death in 1998. He moved to Friendship Haven and continued his travels. Clyde also enjoyed volunteering at Friendship Haven, singing in the choir and staying active while living there.
