Darlene Marie Allard, 88, of Fort Dodge went home to be with her heavenly family on Saturday, October 5, 2019. Ser­vice will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2019, at Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2019, at Gunderson’s. Burial will be held at a later date.

Darlene Marie Showers was born on August 29, 1931, to Ernest and Violet Showers in Stratford, IA. She attended school in California and in Fort Dodge, graduating from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1949. As a young woman Darlene worked at Pop’s Lunch, Marso and Rodenborn, and Mid Continent.

On August 27, 1950, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Duane Allard, at Epworth Methodist Church in Fort Dodge, IA. They made their home in rural Fort Dodge and farmed until retirement. Darlene enjoyed country music, playing cards, and making popcorn balls. Duane and Darlene enjoyed a morning game of Yahtzee and watching Wheel Of Fortune in the evenings. Darlene was a contestant on The Price Is Right. She also liked bowling and gambling. Darlene loved attending her grandchildrens’ activities.

Darlene is survived by her husband of 69 years, Duane; her children, Sandy (Jim) Wafful of Barnum, Kathy (Jeff) Daniel, Barb Allard, Steven (Susan) Allard all of Fort Dodge, and Holly (Dennis) Feldmann of Manson; her siblings, Anna Maddox of FL and Jerry (Betty) Showers of AL; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Violet Showers; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ben and Ruth Allard; her siblings, Verla Pollock, Eldon Showers, Marian Pine and Lillian Johnson; her sister-in-law, Annette Williams; her son-in-law, Bob Maguire and her nephew, Tom Showers.
