CHARLES “MITCH” MITCHELL DUNN

Charles “Mitch” Mitchell Dunn, 72, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Wednes­day, Jan­uary 16, 2019 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.

Services will be 1:30 PM on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel in Fort Dodge with full military services conducted by the VFW Post #1856 and the United States Navy. A time of gathering for family and friends will be from 12:30 PM until the time of services on Saturday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Charles “Mitch” Mitchell Dunn, the son of Charles and Joanne (Riggs) Dunn, was born September 11, 1946, in Beardstown, Illinois. Mitch enlisted into the United States Navy in 1963 and served during the Vietnam War until 1967 when he received a Purple Heart. On November 13, 1976, Mitch was united in marriage to Sandra McDonald-Foote in Fort Dodge. After their marriage the couple made their home in Fort Dodge. They have been married for 42 years.

In 1980, Mitch was able to reenlist in into the United States Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia area. He served in the Navy for a total of 15 years before receiving his honorable discharge. After his military career Mitch was an over the road trucker.

Mitch loved hunting and fishing and his two dogs Yoda and Angel. He also enjoyed woodworking, ceramics and making belts and billfolds out of leather. He was a member of the VFW Post #1856 in Fort Dodge.

He is survived by his wife Sandra, two sons Merle (Tina) Foote of Riverview, Florida and Roger Foote of Duluth, Minnesota; 5 grandchildren, 1 great grandson and 5 step grandchildren; his sister Sharon Reed of Humboldt and his close friends Pat and Gena Sweeney. Mitch is preceded in death by his parents.
