CAROL RENTSCHLER
CALLENDER — Carol J. Rentschler, 79, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018 at her home.
Carol was born in Dayton, Iowa, and graduated from Lehigh High School. She married her lifelong companion, Ben Rentschler, in 1957. Together they raised a family in Babbitt, Minnesota. She was an active member and secretary-treasurer of the Woodland Presbyterian Church and a Girl Scout Leader. Carol’s career history included employment with the American Fraternal Union, the U.S. Forestry Service, and the Dorothy Molter Museum in Ely, MN. After 50 years, the couple moved to Callender to again connect with friends and family in Iowa.
In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling across the United States in the motorhome she and Ben made as a second home. They became fond of Zapata, TX, and spent many winters forging friendships and making memories there.
Carol had many interests and talents she was able to share with those blessed to be close to her. She had a strong creative drive that found many outlets through the years such as knitting, crochet, and gardening. She delighted in building relationships with others and brought a spirit of fun and levity to the enduring connections she made.
Carol is preceded in death by mother Dorothy Long, father Lloyd Long, sister Pat Granahan, son Michael Rentschler, and daughter Lori Nelson.
Carol is survived by husband Ben Rentschler; sons Tom and Dennis Rentschler; grandchildren Nichole Rentschler, Jennifer Nelson, Deanna Lassegard, Heather Keller, Taralyn Nelson, and Carissa Dropps; and eight great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 1:30 pm Sunday, May 20 at our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Callender with Pastor Greg Stano and Pastor Deb Stano officiating. A luncheon will be served following the service. Burial will be at a later date in Argo Cemetery, Babbitt, MN.
Memorials may be left for family discretion.
