REX H. WARLAND

Rex H. Warland, age 78, of State College. Beloved husband of 55 years of Carol (Martinson); loving father of Brett Warland (Kari) of Rocky River, Ohio and Mari Gaudet (Rich) of Hauppauge, New York; grandfather of Courtney, Tristin and Treyten Warland, Tyler and Jayci Gaudet; brother of Steven Warland and Betsy Warland both of Vancouver, BC. Rex was a 1957 graduate from Fort Dodge High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from St. Olaf College in 1961 and his PhD from Iowa State in 1964. Rex enjoyed 35 years on the faculty at Penn State, retiring in 2001 as Professor Emeritus of Rural Sociology. He was the author or coauthor of several books and dozens of journal articles. Although he was an accomplished researcher, he took most satisfaction from working with and mentoring graduate students. He served as the primary methodologist on over 350 graduate students’ committees both in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology and throughout the University.
