Meyer receives health care champion award

Iowa PA Society physician assistants presented a health care champion award to the chief Iowa House sponsor of the PA bill, HF 424, state Rep. Ann Meyer, R-Fort Dodge. The bill to license PAs to practice autonomously passed the Legislature with broad bipartisan support earlier this year. Passing the bill means that medical care is more likely to be available in small towns where the PA may be the sole source of medical care. The chief bill sponsor, Ann Meyer, a registered nurse and chair of the Iowa House Health and Human Services Committee, said the PA bill increases access to medical care by streamlining PA licensing and treats PA regulation like that of nurse practitioners.
