Gowrie Public Library receives friendship bench
Ambassadors of the nonprofit Youth Empowerment Association Inc. presented the City Council of Gowrie a gift of a friendship bench and an outdoor free community library on Aug. 21. Every year the ambassadors are required to give a gift to their school, community or church. The Gowrie Public Library received this bench as a token of thanks for partnering with the Youth Empowerment Association to host a rap room for the past year. Rap rooms are a safe nonjudgmental place for kids to be themselves, meet new friends and speak openly about any fears or concerns they may have. The outdoor free library will be painted by the SEV art department to put their own community signature flair to it. Pictured from left are Elissa Mobley, Jenny Johnson, Gary Carsten, Andy Johnson, Elle Johnson, Morgan Byson, Nikki Carsten, Bethany Grazier, Cornell Lowery, Mayor Gayle Redman and Ellie Carsten. David H. Anderson is not pictured.
