St. Mark’s holds Advent services

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1007 First Ave. S., will again celebrate the Advent season with the inclusion of special music at each of the four Sundays of Advent leading to Christmas.

Each Sunday, congregational singing will be led by several of the St. Mark’s cantors including Denise Naeve, Austin Sorenson, Benjamin Chavers, Nathan Schelle, Matthew Delaney and Jade Kinney. The 10 a.m. Advent liturgies and the special music offerings will be the following:

Third Sunday of Advent — Dec. 15 — Lutenist and guitarist, Stephen Kelleher.

Fourth Sunday of Advent — Dec. 22 — Violinist, Bill Sergeant and Oboist, Cari Hepperle.

On Dec. 22, there will be an Evensong service at 6 p.m. Originating in the Anglican tradition, Evensong is sometimes referred to as Evening Prayer. This service, comprised of lessons, chanted psalms and music, is often used as a means of steadying the mind and refreshing the soul. The Rev. Kris Leaman is the priest in charge and Kathleen Schreier serves as organist and director of music for St. Mark’s. Each Sunday service begins at 10 a.m. with a coffee reception to follow for all in Taylor Hall.
