Lessons and Carols planned at St. Mark’s

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1007 First Ave. S., will hold a Lessons and Carols service on Monday evening, which is Christmas Eve.

Caroling will begin at 5:30 p.m. The service will begin at 6 p.m.

The service will include six biblical readings from the Old Testament book of Isaiah and the gospels of Luke, Mark and Matthew.

Between the readings, Christmas carols will be sung by the congregation and featured soloists. They include Benjamin and Elizabeth Chavers, Sean Kramer, Andrew Last, Denise Neave, Michael Richardson, Austin Sorenson and Gretchen Staley. Bill Sergeant will be the featured violinist. Nicholas Shaneyfelt will also serve as an accompanist.

The Lessons and Carols service is a tradition that can be traced to England in 1880, according to an announcement from the church.
