Grace Lutheran Church, 211 S. Ninth St., will hold a noon worship service and soup luncheon on Dec. 19. The combination of the longest night of the year and Christmas creates difficulties for many who simply are not able to have a Merry Christmas. Loss of loved ones, fear for job security, loss of home or family, or fear of health issues cause many to shut down during the holiday season.

The opportunity to gather with others and hear words of comfort is an important part of the Christmas story. The hope for this service is to assure everyone that the light still shines in the darkness.
