Lifetree topic is student-led walkouts

The rise and impact of student-led school walkouts surrounding gun control will be discussed at noon and 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Lifetree Cafe at Cana, 18 S. Third St.

The program, titled “In the News: Banning Guns,” features interviews with two students who organized walkouts at their high schools: one in favor of gun control and one in opposition.

“Walkouts have had a major impact on the national conversation about gun control,” says Lifetree Cafe Director Craig Cable. “This is an hour dedicated to understanding why students are leading walkouts and discovering respectful, constructive ways to have a conversation about a divisive issue.”

During the program, participants will have an opportunity to share their viewpoints on gun control while better understanding the viewpoints of others.

Admission to the 60-minute event is free. Lifetree Cafe is a place where people gather for conversation about life and faith in a casual, comfortable setting. Questions about Lifetree may be directed to the Rev. Barbara Huisman at 302-8036.
