Man accused of shooting animal during burglary

A Fort Dodge man faces multiple charges in connection with a burglary during which he is accused of shooting an animal, according to court records.

Dayn F. Muniz, 18, of 1102 17th St. S. W. made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Wednesday morning on a charge of animal abuse.

He was previously charged with first degree burglary, reckless use of a firearm causing property damage, use of a dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime and going armed with intent.

In criminal complaints filed against him, Fort Dodge police wrote that between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. April 16, Muniz entered the property at 223 Second St. N.W. and while there shot an animal.

The court proceeding Wednesday was related only to the animal abuse charge. Magistrate Brandy R. Lundy scheduled a May 4 preliminary hearing. She also ordered that Muniz be held in jail on a $2,000 cash only bond.
