Man enters guilty plea in FD gunfire case
A man charged with firing a couple of gunshots in a Fort Dodge neighborhood last December has pleaded guilty to some of the charges filed against him, according to court records.
Miguel A. Vazquez, 23, of Fort Dodge, received a suspended jail sentence, but will have to pay a fine and serve probation.
The incident happened at about 4:30 p.m. Dec. 17, 2025, at 720 B St. According to the criminal complaints filed against him, during an argument with two or three other people, Vazquez brandished a handgun. He hit a man with the gun and pointed it at a woman before firing two rounds into the ground, according to the criminal complaints.
He was arrested by Fort Dodge police and charged with:
∫ Intimidation with a dangerous weapon
∫ Going armed with intent
∫ Assault while displaying a dangerous weapon
∫ Possession or carrying of a dangerous weapon while under the influence
∫ Assault causing bodily injury or mental illness
Court records show that he pleaded guilty to assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and possession or carrying of a dangerous weapon while under the influence. All of the other charges were dropped.
He received a 90 day jail sentence for each of the charges to which he pleaded guilty, but both sentences were suspended.
Vazquez will have to pay a $430 fine plus surcharge. He will also have to serve one year of probation.
