FD used car dealer faces criminal charge

The owner of a Fort Dodge used car dealership has been accused of improperly selling vehicles he was supposed to hold in trust and pocketing the money, according to court documents.

Jeff A. Frevert, 55, of Fort Dodge, is the owner of Auto Drive Inc. at 2944 Fifth Ave. S.

He is charged with ongoing criminal conduct, influence enterprise, according to court records.

In the criminal complaint filed against Frevert, investigators wrote that the Iowa Department of Transportation received complaints that payment had not been received for more than 100 vehicles held in the trust of Frevert.

Investigators wrote that “the defendant has acted in this capacity to commit theft for property held in his trust on numerous occasions.”

The criminal complaint contains one specific example of Frevert’s alleged activity. The complaint states that he received a vehicle held in trust for Peoples Credit Union, and sold it in 2021 without informing the credit union. The credit union was to hold the vehicle as collateral until September 2025.

“The defendant has had beneficial use of the proceeds of this sale and other sales from 2018 in a pattern of action of unspecified unlawful activity,” investigators wrote in the criminal complaint.

Frevert’s case was on the docket in Webster County Magistrate Court on Monday. Through his attorney, Judd Parker, he waived his right to a preliminary hearing. That means the case against him will proceed to arraignment and trial.
