Man arrested for breaking into apartment
A man was arrested after a deputy sheriff saw him abandon a vehicle and force his way into a Fort Dodge apartment very early Tuesday morning.
Gregory J. Marshall, 29, of 1543 27th Ave. N., was arrested and charged with second degree burglary.
According to the criminal complaint filed against him, the deputy saw Marshall’s 2017 Chevrolet Silverado pickup speeding and pass another vehicle just after midnight. The deputy saw the truck stop, and saw Marshall get out and run to an apartment in the 300 block of Avenue M West, where he forced his way in through a door. The deputy wrote that he heard a woman inside the apartment scream after Marshall entered it.
Marshall made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court later Tuesday morning.
Magistrate Brandy R. Lundy set a preliminary hearing for Jan. 12. She also issued an order barring him from having any contact with the woman who lives in the apartment.
Pot found downtown caused concern
People were asked to stay away from a section of downtown Fort Dodge for a few hours Tuesday morning after a pot was found sitting along a curb.
Police took precautions just in case the object they described as an “Instant Pot type appliance” contained an explosive or was otherwise dangerous.
The owner of the pot was later found and it was determined that it was not dangerous, police reported.
The pot was spotted at 6:52 a.m. on the south curb in the 800 block of First Avenue North.
At around 10 a.m. the owner of the pot was identified and the area was deemed to be safe.
The Fort Dodge Fire Department, Fort Dodge Public Works Department, Webster County sheriff’s deputies, the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office and the state Division of Narcotics Enforcement assisted with the incident.
