Confrontation results in charges for driver
A man faces multiple criminal charges after reportedly getting into a confrontation with a motorcyclist, hitting the moving motorcycle with his vehicle, causing it to crash, and then leaving the scene, according to court records.
Those records show Bruce P. Wagner, 65, of 2475 170th St., was charged with:
∫ Leave scene of accident, injury
∫ Leave scene of accident, failure to provide aid or information
∫ Reckless driving
∫ Assault
∫ Passing on wrong side
In criminal complaints filed against him, Webster County sheriff’s deputies wrote “The defendant drove the vehicle in such a manner as to indicate a willful or wanton disregard for safety of persons or property.”
The incident that led to the charges happened at about 9 p.m. June 7 in the 2200 mile of 170th Street north of Fort Dodge. According to the criminal complaints, Wagner was driving a 2016 Jeep Wrangler eastbound on 170th Street near Madison Avenue.
“While attempting to overtake a group of motorcycle riders, the defendant failed to fully pass the group before changing lanes, resulting in a near collision with the riders,” deputies wrote in the criminal complaints.
Wagner then got into a confrontation with one of the motorcyclists while both of their vehicles were moving, according to the criminal complaints.The complaints state that Wagner swerved and his vehicle hit the motorcycle, causing it to crash. Wagner drove away from the scene, according to the complaints.
Wagner’s case was in Webster County Magistrate Court Thursday morning.
He waived his right to a preliminary hearing on the most serious charge of leave scene of accident, injury.
Court action on all the other charges was postponed for 180 days.
Magistrate Sarah J. Livingston issued an order prohibiting Wagner from having any contact with the motorcyclist whose vehicle he is accused of hitting.
