Area woman charged in human trafficking case
A woman has been charged with sexually trafficking a 14-year-old girl from Fort Dodge, according to the Iowa Department of Public Safety.
Amanda J. Goff, 41, of Belmond, was arrested by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and charged with first degree human trafficking, the department reported.
According to the criminal complaint filed against her, on Jan. 21, Goff took the girl to a hotel in Perry with the intent to sell her into “commercial sexual activity.” Investigators wrote in the complaints that after arriving at the hotel, Goff and an unnamed co-defendant negotiated a price and the girl “captured” that conversation. The investigators wrote that Goff and the other individual did agree on a price.
Goff was arrested at the Sac County Jail, where she was being held on other charges, the Department of Public Safety reported.
She made her initial appearance in Dallas County Magistrate Court Wednesday. Magistrate Gina Burress set bond at $750,000 cash only and scheduled a preliminary hearing for Nov. 10.
The charges Goff was jailed for in Sac County included kidnapping and sexual offenses. Those charges were dismissed at the request of Sac County Attorney Ben Smith because they are related to the Dallas County case. In a motion requesting that the charges be dismissed, Smith wrote that Goff faces a more serious charge in Dallas County.
