Napping intruder faces burglary charge

A Stratford couple came home Tuesday to find an unwelcome surprise — a stranger sleeping on the couch.

The snoozing intruder now faces a criminal charge, according to court records.

Alex K. Hanson, 58, of Des Moines, was arrested by Webster County sheriff’s deputies and charged with third degree burglary, court records indicate.

According to the criminal complaint filed against him, Hanson entered a home in the 3200 block of South River Way sometime during the day Tuesday. He took a bath, shaved and ate some food. When he was discovered , he was wearing some of the male resident’s clothes and had the man’s medicine in a pocket, the criminal complaint states.

He made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Thursday morning. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Aug. 27.

Magistrate Sarah Livingston issued an order prohibiting Hanson from having any contact with the residents of the home.

Hanson was released to the supervision of the Department of Correctional Services.

Starting at $4.94/week.
