Woman sent to prison on fentanyl charge

A former Fort Dodge resident is heading to federal prison after pleading guilty to dealing fentanyl, according to court records.

Someone died after overdosing on some of the fentanyl pills Braleigh Schossow sold, prosecutors said.

Schossow, 25, is listed as a Galva resident by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa, but she lived in Fort Dodge at one time.

On Feb. 11, she pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors said that between December 2020 and February 2024, Schossow distributed at least 100,000 pills containing fentanyl. In 2022, someone died from an overdose after taking some of the pills she distributed, prosecutors said.

In 2023. Schossow’s home in Fort Dodge was searched and law enforcement officers found more than 7,000 fentanyl pills, cocaine, $72,000 in cash and a loaded handgun.

Last week, U.S. District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand sentenced Schossow to 141 months in prison.
