FD man sentenced on fentanyl charge

A Fort Dodge man is heading to federal prison for selling fentanyl, including a sale to someone who later died of an overdose.

Alexander Sebastian, 30, was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison for conspiring to distribute fentanyl, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa.

He pleaded guilty to the charge on Jan. 31 and was sentenced on Friday, federal prosecutors reported.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, between December 2020 and February 2024, Sebastian was part of a conspiracy to distribute pills containing fentanyl across Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota. He helped to distribute more than 20,000 of those pills, prosecutors said.

In October 2022, he sold pills containing fentanyl to a person who then died of a fentanyl overdose, prosecutors reported.

He remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshal’s Service until he can be moved to a federal prison.
