Man faces burglary and assault charges
A Fort Dodge man broke into a home early Friday morning and attempted to choke a woman there, then assaulted another woman about a half hour later, according to criminal complaints filed against him.
Those complaints indicate that at about 4:50 a.m. Friday, Cameron J. Hartley, 37, of 440 Third St. N.W., forced his way into a home in the 300 block of Fourth Street Northwest through a bathroom window. After he was chased out of the house, he put his hands on the throat of a woman who lived there and applied pressure, according to the criminal complaints.
Fort Dodge police arrived and arrested Hartley.
Because Hartley suffered several cuts while forcing his way through the bathroom window, police took him to the emergency room at UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center. There, he kicked a woman in the abdomen, according to the criminal complaints.
Fort Dodge police arrested Hartley on multiple charges.
For the incident on Fourth Street Northwest, he was charged with second degree burglary and assault causing bodily injury or mental illness. For the incident at the hospital, he was charged with assault.
Hartley made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Friday morning.
A preliminary hearing on the second degree burglary and assault causing bodily injury or mental illness charges was scheduled for Oct. 14.
Court action on the assault charge, considered a lesser offense, was postponed 180 days.
Magistrate William H. Habhab issued an order barring Hartley from having any contact with either woman.
Habhab also set Hartley’s bond at $11,000 cash only.
