Burglary defendant enters plea deal for February incident

A Memphis man accused of breaking into a Fort Dodge woman’s house and holding her at knife point in February has agreed to a plea deal with probation and a suspended prison sentence, according to court documents.

Otis Odomes III, 42, filed documents through his attorney Monday to properly plead guilty to first-degree theft, a Class C felony, and assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor. The court adjudicated his guilty plea for false imprisonment, a serious misdemeanor, in April.

A first-degree burglary charge, the most serious of the the initial four charges, was dropped through a plea agreement with the Webster County Attorney’s office. The plea deal offers Odomes formal probation for two years and suspended prison sentences totaling 13 years. If Odomes completes probation successfully, he will not serve any time in prison.

Odomes will also be required to undergo a mental health evaluation and treatment if the court accepts his plea.

Criminal complaints say that Odomes held a knife to his victim, making her show him that nobody else was in the house in the 300 block of South Eighth Street. Police allege that when the victim managed to call 911, he sat on top of her and punched her in the head.
