McDonald gets 10 years in felony enticing case

A man who admitted using a false Facebook profile to try to get teens to send nude photos to him has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Kevin McDonald, 42, of Fort Dodge, pleaded guilty to two counts of enticing a minor, both Class D felonies, Monday afternoon in Webster County District Court.
At the hearing, McDonald admitted, in the fall of 2014, he created a Facebook account where he identified himself as a 15-year-old boy and befriended two Fort Dodge teenage girls who were under 16 years old.
During the period from Sept. 30, 2014 to Nov. 6, 2014, McDonald said he tried to get both girls to send him naked photos of themselves.
Neither of the victims sent him photos.
McDonald was arrested after the incidents were reported. At the time of the incidents, McDonald was on parole for a lascivious acts on a child conviction from Carroll County.
After pleading guilty, McDonald informed Judge Thomas Bice that he wanted to be sentenced Monday.
Before that happened, a relative of one victim read two written statements – one from the victim and one from the victim’s father.
“I felt weird and sad about it,” the victim’s letter read. “I only trust my family. I think all males are lying.”
The victim went on to write in her letter that when she tells people what happened, they look at her differently.
The victim’s father said in his letter that McDonald’s actions have “changed the family considerably.”
“What can you say to her that will allow her to trust again?” the victim’s father asked in his letter.
He went on to say that he sees McDonald “as a predator and prison is too good for you.”
McDonald declined to make a statement of his own.
Bice said he wrote down five words that he said described McDonald; “Disgusting. Sick. Repulsive. Manipulative. Predatory.”
“That says it all,” Bice said. “You prey upon teenage girls. You falsely represented yourself through Facebook as 15 years old.”
“Society needs protection from the likes of you, Mr. McDonald,” Bice added.
In addition to a maximum 10-year prison sentence, McDonald must also register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. Any parole that is revoked will also be served consecutive to his new prison sentence.
